Good customer service , efficient . Menu has a lot of selection: rolls , sushi combo , sashimi combo , grilled fish , skewers, Chirashi Dunburi , etc The portion is generous for the price . It is 30 % less expensive than the Japanese restaurant one block away . The tonkatsu and grilled chicken tastes the same as Tomi Sushi . May be the Sashimi in Tomi Sushi is a tiny bit more fresh and tasty . It opens at 5 pm in the evening. We arrived at 5:35 pm and only 2 tables left . Overall it is a good dinning experience.
Ambience/General: We went to this restaurant because we were in downtown Mountain View before a Stanford Men's Basketball Game and wanted to find a quick Japanese. All in all this is a GOOD value for money. The Ambience is not bad. Service: The folks serving us were very nice and prompt in getting us our drinks and our food. Food: The food was good (not great but good) enough for us to come back again for sure. Here is what we ordered: * Two Item Bento: Salmon Teriyaki and Beef Ribs. I don't like either of those but it looked good (my Mother and Father-in-Law had this) * Chicken Katsu: My sons get this and they loved it. THIS IS A HUGE WIN :) * G5. Sushi Combo B (this is what I got): I substituted Spicy Tuna roll for the California Roll for +$3 and I would have to say it was a steal at this price. It was tasty and the fish were fresh. * Starters - Jalapeno Poppers: This was just "OK" - it was way too smokey. I didn't care for it. - Shishito Peppers: It was "OK" - Bacon wrapped mushroom: This was OUTSTANDING All in all this place is a good value for money. I would go back again. C
I got the Hey, Hamachi roll and I shared the poke salad with my partner. The poke was fresh and very tasty, it comes with cucumber, onions and avocado. The dressing was light and tied the whole salad together. The Hamachi roll was also a very tasty as well, I liked how fresh the fish tasted in both dishes. The staff is very attentive as well. Come check this place out the next time you are in Mountain View!
Fresh foods, the tastes are good, services are wonderful! Try the beef tongue skewer!
3/11/2025 Kakaroto Japanese Restaurant 743 W Dana St. Mountain View, CA 94041 This is an update to my prior reviews and a rating upgrade. I will specifically report on the Tonkatsu Curry lunch which I had on a Tuesday. The place was ¾ full and doing a lot of take out business. I was seated promptly and service was outstanding during my lunch. The meal came with OK Miso soup and a small Iceberg lettuce salad. The main issue with this entree is tenderness and moistness of the pork cutlet. If the thickness is not uniform, the thinner parts are tough and chewy. My cutlet had a golden crunchy breading on the outside and a uniformly thick cutlet which was tender, moist and delicious. The curry came separately in a steel boat with some carrot and potato chunks with sliced onion. The breading helps soak up the sauce. The sauce was not spicy so I kicked it up a notch with Togarashi. The portion was generous and I was happily stuffed. I've had this dish at several other MTV places and Kakaroto definitely is the best. A terrific value, definite repeat and upgrading to 5 stars.
